Sure there are a lot of ideas, and I agree it is the ultimate fuel (Google sodium borohydride). However… most applications are using H2 as an energy storage and transport mechanism, not as a primary source… unless you are talking about nuclear fusion! Aside from that, we need a primary energy source to extract H2 from water, then compress/liquefy/process it into a form we can use. That requires new processing, distribution, engine mods, and etc. As you point out, the enviros will hapily destroy the enviro to build batteries for electric cars but have not thought about where the actual energy comes from or how to get it to the user! Sheesh!
